It keeps us alert
The most important component of coffee is caffeine; it is also the most consumed psychoactive substance in the world.
When you drink coffee, this component is responsible for blocking adenosine; this causes the increase of other substances, such as dopamine or norepinephrine, which are responsible for accelerating brain activity.
According to studies, coffee improves several aspects of brain function; these aspects include:
- The memory.
- The mood.
- Energy levels.
- General cognitive function.
- Surveillance.
- Reaction times.
But, in exchange for offering us these advantages, coffee keeps us awake for longer, which can cause sleep disorders. This is why you should not drink more than four cups of coffee a day.
It helps us burn fat
Caffeine is present in many of the supplements that are supposed to help us lose weight. This is because it is one of the few natural substances that helps us burn fat. The only downside is that these effects are diminished in people who consume a lot of coffee.
