Instead of powder, lemon is poured in, then the empty machine needs to be turned on, selecting a program in which the water is heated to maximum temperatures. For most models, this will be a program for cotton clothes in which the water is heated to 90 degrees.
The acid dissolves the water well without damaging the parts. How much excess has accumulated on the parts can be assessed by the first drain of water. You won’t be able to see the result without disassembling the machine, but if you need clarity, you can simply boil water in a kettle with a spoonful of citric acid and let it cool. You will notice how much cleaner and brighter the metal parts have become.
