WOULD ANYONE EAT THIS FRIED CABBAGE (WITH BACON, ONION, AND GARLIC)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cabbage:
    • Slice the cabbage into thin strips or chop it into bite-sized pieces, depending on your preference.
  2. Cook the bacon:
    • In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, but leave the bacon fat in the pan (or you can drain some of the fat if it seems too much).
  3. Cook the onion and garlic:
    • In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the sliced onion and cook over medium heat until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
  4. Fry the cabbage:
    • Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet. Stir it around to coat it in the bacon fat, onions, and garlic.
    • Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using).
    • If the cabbage starts to stick to the pan, add a little chicken broth or water to help it cook down.
  5. Sauté the cabbage:
    • Stir occasionally, letting the cabbage cook down and caramelize. This should take about 10-15 minutes, depending on how tender you like your cabbage.
    • If you like it a little softer, you can add a splash of apple cider vinegar towards the end to help soften the cabbage and add a bit of tang.
  6. Finish and serve:
    • Once the cabbage is cooked to your desired tenderness, stir the cooked bacon back into the pan.
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
    • Serve hot as a side dish or main dish!
