The trick to heating your home for free without using the heating

4. Seal the windows and doors

Much of the heat is lost through gaps or leaks. Use weatherstripping, rubber tape, or rolled-up towels at the base of doors and windows to prevent cold air from entering.

5. Place thermal or double curtains

Thick or lined curtains help keep the heat in, especially if your windows are older or single-pane. If you don’t have thermal curtains, you can add a blanket behind your regular curtains.

6. Cook at home and leave the oven door open

After baking, leave the oven door ajar to take advantage of the residual heat. In addition, cooking stews or infusions also contributes to raising the ambient temperature.

7. Rearrange your furniture

Avoid placing large furniture pieces that block natural heat sources (such as sunny windows) or against cold exterior walls. Ideally, move them closer to interior walls to maintain a more stable heat distribution.
