There are certain abilities that humans possess which we often take for granted, simply because we’ve always had them and never known anything different. However, when compared to animals, you might be surprised to discover that even our ability to look up is quite special. Did you know that pigs can’t look up at the sky? Due to the anatomical structure of their necks and spines, this is one task that these animals can’t do.
The animal you’re referring to is likely the pig.
🐖 Why can’t pigs look up and see the sky?
Pigs physically cannot look up to the sky because of the structure of their necks and spine. Their neck muscles and the alignment of their spine make it difficult — almost impossible — for them to tilt their heads upward enough to see the sky when standing.
However, it’s not entirely true that pigs can never see the sky:
-
If they lie down on their backs (which is rare but possible), or if they’re in a position where their head is tilted back (e.g., being held or angled upward), they technically can see the sky.
-
But in a natural, standing position, pigs cannot look directly up.
